Common duiker, Cape grysbok and small grey mongoose are quite frequently seen. The birdlife is varied, and includes grey-winged francolin, black eagle and Cape sugerbird. The neighbouring Jonkershoek State Forest is open during the day between May and September and has a variety of paths and trails. Permits are required. Access: From Stellenbosch take the Jonkershoek road, and watch for signpost to the reserve on the right. Permits should be arranged in advance by telephone and collected from the Jonkershoek Fish Hatchery. Accommodation: None.
